General Workforce Performance Appraisal System (GWPAS) - Performance Management for Rating Officials

Rating Officials have the reponsibility of guiding their employees through the performance management process. A rating official should start each performance appraisal cycle by establishing his or her expectations and clearly communicating these expectations to his or her employees. Part of this is satisfied by the determination of critical elements within an employee's performance plan. However, the creation of a performance plan should not replace direct communication between the employee and the supervisor. Frank and candid conversations regarding duties, requirements, and office conduct will maintain good morale, relieve unnecessary stress by identifying exactly what is expected of an employee, and enhance the working relationship between the employee and supervisor. As a result, overall performance, both individually and office-wide, will improve.
