Workforce Management Office (WFMO)
Serving NOAA's Most Valuable Asset - People

The James D. Martin Employee Worklife Center provides the following services:

  • The Doctor is In - Employees may schedule a 15 minute coaching session (in person and telephonic) on matters pertaining to stress management, improving employee relations, career coaching, and referral to needed resources. This program is based on supervisory approval and employees need to be excused for this activity. For example, career coaching assists employees with resume development, identifying skills and talents for internal NOAA job transfer, interview coaching, and developing networking skills.

  • Child & Eldercare - Assistance with identification and location of centers and home based day-care that meets NOAA employee criteria.

  • Concierge Research Service - The James D. Martin Worklife center advisors can assist employees in researching matters pertaining to childcare, eldercare, marriage, divorce and other topics. Please contact the advisor for more details.

  • Mind/Body Wellness Program - This program for holistic wellness and resilient living seeks to address the core components of the employee, including body and mind. With supervisory approval, employees will be invited to register for a 6 week Mind/Body class in which they will learn about mind-body healing, the nature of stress, and technologies for preventing and reducing stress. Employees will be introduced to a number of stress management techniques, such as, progressive muscle relaxation, breathing retraining and meditation, guided imagery, and mindfulness. As a support to maintaining on-going mind/body wellness, employees are encouraged to enroll in our other wellness programs, such as, Meditation/Breathing Retraining group and Tai Chi class. This program is based on supervisory approval and employees need to be excused for this activity.

  • Lactation Room - Lactating mothers can enjoy the privacy and convenience of the onsite lactation room - available by appointment during business hours.

  • NOAA Employees at Sea - Equipping employees and family members with resources to cope when one party is on an extended tour of duty.

  • Resource Library - Stocked with the latest Work and Life Balance readings, NOAA employees can check-out books, videos, and audio materials. The listing of available check-out materials are listed in the Worklife Center Resources.

  • Support Groups - Voluntary participation of NOAA employees in groups that address issues relevant to life and career.

  • Seminars, Lunch & Learn Sessions - Expert and thought leader presentations on topics pertaining to personal financial planning, tax filing preparation, stress management, health and wellness, etc. Skills for Resilient Living are crafted to impart new skills, resources, and insights for enhancing life and work performance. Monthly seminars are videotaped and placed on the intranet for internal employee viewing. Periodic "Lunch and Learn" seminars will be scheduled as needed on additional topics. For example, these sessions might include a presentation on volunteer opportunities with the Montgomery County Public School system or issues in child and elder care.
