NOAA Human Resources Cash in You r Account Page Heading

CIYA is an excellent tool for rewarding and encouraging continued hard work from employees. CIYA awards are disbursed at any point within the pay period, rather than held until an official pay date. Therefore, a supervisor can nearly immediately recognize an employee's accomplishment(s), more closely linking the valued-activity with the reward.

Submit a Nomination

The CIYA program should be used in cases where higher-level awards, such as Honor, Special Act, and Administrator's Awards, are not appropriate. The following list highlights situations in which CIYAs are appropriate:

(a) completing a short-term project or significant milestone in less time than expected or when unusual difficulties had to be overcome;

(b) developing new or revised procedures or other contributions toward improving office productivity;

(c) handling an unusually heavy workload, e.g., because co-workers are absent;

(d) completing a significant special assignment that is outside normal job responsibilities; and

(e) planning a special event that is particularly successful.

Eligibility

  • All NOAA employees are eligible to receive CIYA Awards with the exception of the following:
    • Presidential Appointees (advice and consent of Senate)
    • Senior Executives
    • NOAA Corps Officers
    • Contractors
    • Volunteers or Private Citizens

Award Values and Limitations

  • Recipients may receive awards in net amounts of $50.00 - $500.00 in increments of $50.00.
  • An employee, as an individual or part of a group, may not exceed a net total of $1000.00 per calendar year under the CIYA program.
  • There is no limitation on the number of awards granted to an employee as long as the dollar amount does not exceed the $1000.00 limitation.
  • CIYA awards will not be processed during the last two pay periods of the calendar year in order to avoid tax complications.
