When
is the NLS being held?
The
NLS starts on Monday, March 21, 2005 at 4PM and concludes on Thursday,
March 24, 2005 at 3 PM.
Where
is the NLS being held?
The
NLS will be held at the Airlie Center in Warrenton, VA. Information about
the conference center and travel information can be found at the Airlie
Center web site. Note that the Airlie Center is about 45 minutes from
Dulles Airport and an hour from Reagan National Airport, during non-rush
hours. It is suggested you rent a car at the airport rather than take a
taxi due to the potential cost of the taxi fare. You will find more travel
information on the Airlie Center web
site.
What
is the dress code and what should I bring?
The
dress code for the entire seminar is Business Casual. It is suggested you
bring an umbrella as you will be walking from your lodging to the seminar
events. There are walking trails, bikes and bike paths, fishing poles and
ponds, as well as an outdoor pool available for your use during the seminar
weather permitting.
When
is check-in?
Check-in
at the Airlie Center is from 1:30 PM to 3:45 PM on Monday, March 21, 2005.
The seminar starts at 4 PM that day. The first meal will be dinner on Monday
from 6-7 PM. Lunch is neither provided nor available on Monday, so please
don't arrive hungry.
What
is the start time of the NLS?
The
first seminar session will be held from 4-5 PM on Monday, March 21, 2005.
It is important that participants attend this session as they will be assigned
to "Breakout Groups" that will be used later that evening and throughout
the seminar.
This is
a NOAA Employee only event. Please do not bring guests.
Who
are the Line & Staff Office coordinators?
What
is the cost of the NLS and what does the cost include?
The
NLS costs $650 per participant. This cost has been paid for by each participant's
Office. Included in this cost is lodging on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
nights, and all meals starting with dinner on Monday night and ending with
lunch on Thursday afternoon.
NOTE:
If you are unable to attend the full NLS (including staying at the Airlie
Center on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights), please consider postponing
your participation and sending an alternate. The $650 cost is a set cost,
and is not reduced by shortened stays or missed sessions.
Is
lodging available Sunday and Thursday nights at the Airlie Center for early
arrival and/or late departure?
There
is a limited number of lodging rooms available on Sunday and Thursday nights
for early arrival or late departure participants. Participants who stay
over night on Sunday will be provided dinner on Sunday night, as well as
breakfast and lunch on Monday. Participants who stay over night Thursday
will be provided dinner Thursday and breakfast on Friday morning. The cost
per night for either an early arrival or late departure is $175.00 and
must be paid for separately by the seminar attendee on their travel charge
card and included on their travel orders.
Do
I need travel orders or room reservations?
Each
participant will need an official travel order whether you are local to
DC or from a field or regional office. All meals and lodging at the Airlie
Center from Monday, March 21, dinner through Thursday, March 24, lunch
are included in the $650 Seminar Fee, and should not be included
on the travel order.
Do I need to make of confirm my room reservation?
No.
Once you have registered for the NLS, your room reservation for Monday,
Tuesday, and Wednesday nights is automatically made. NOAA has pre-booked
a room for every participant, so you are guaranteed lodging. Please
do not call the Airlie Center, the NLS Program Coordinator, the NLS Program
Manager, or your Line/Staff Office NLS Coordinator to confirm your reservation
at the Airlie Center.
NOTE:
If you have made an early arrival or a late departure reservation for Sunday
or Thursday night with the Airlie Center, you may to confirm those registrations
with the Airlie Sales Manager, Bernadette Mimna, at 540-341-3288.

Are
telephones and DSL lines available in the lodging rooms at Airlie?
Yes
- Local, toll-free, and calling card calls are free up to 60 minutes and
10 cents per minute after 60 minutes. Long distance phone calls are 50
cents per minute. It is suggested you use a calling card for long distance
calls. Please check with the Airlie Front Desk to verify current long distance
rates.
There
are data ports in each guest room for dial up modem access. Please make
sure your ISP number is a local number in order to avoid high long distance
charges. Also note that calls lasting over 60 minutes are charged 10 cents
per minute after the first hour. To avoid this charge, you can terminate
the call before it reaches 60 minutes in length and reconnect after a few
seconds. Make sure to disconnect from the web when finished.
High
speed internet access is available in guest rooms at a cost of $9.95 for
24 hours.
