The NOAA Leadership Seminar
(NLS)

August 28-31, 2006
Airlie Center, Warrenton, VA
540-347-1300

About the NLS:

The NLS is designed for NOAA employees with an interest in:

  • Gaining knowledge and insight of current One NOAA initiatives and drivers.
  • Networking with NOAA senior leaders and other participants.
  • Learning and enhancing effective leadership skills.

Who Should Attend the NLS:

The target audience for the NLS is GS 13-14s (or equivalents), nominated by their Line/Corporate Offices (LOs/COs). Individual LOs/COs may determine that GS-12 and GS-15 candidates would also benefit from attending the NLS.

Attendance at the NLS is limited to once every three years per participant. Therefore, if an employee attended the August 24-26, 2004 NLS, the March 21-24, 2005 NLS, and/or the August 22-25, 2005 Mid-Level Retreat (MLR), that employee will not be eligible to attend another NLS until at least 2007. If an employee attended the first MLR held October 21-23, 2003 and has not attended another NLS or MLR event since, he/she would now be eligible to attend the upcoming August 28-31, 2006 NLS. Attendee nominations lists are compared to previous NLS and MLR rosters and ‘repeaters’ are identified.

NLS Registration:

The online reservation system was open from Monday, July 24, 2006 – Friday, August 4, 2006. Attendees received instructions on how to register via email from Tracy Scott, the NLS Program Manager, on or before July 24, 2006. Any attendee changes from Friday, August 25, 2006 - Thursday, August 31, 2006 must be arranged through the appropriate NLS Line/Corporate Office Coordinator and the NLS Program Manager.

NLS attendees were responsible for registering for a standard conference package via the Airlie Center’s online reservations system using their government travel cards. The standard conference package includes meals and lodging for the three days/nights of the NLS at a cost of $203.81 + 5% VA tax ($10.19) = $214 per day x 3 days = $642.00 total.

There were also options in the online reservation system to add early arrival (Sunday, August 27th) and/or late departure (Thursday, August 31st) if needed.
